AEC Q100 qualified magnetic encoder iCs

March 19th, 2021

iC-MU / iC-MHL

The iC-MU200 and iC-MHL200 magnetic encoder ICs from iC-Haus are now qualified according to AEC Q100 (Grade 1) - for use in automotive applications in the temperature range from –40 to +125 °C. The ICs are suitable for high-precision hollow shaft and off-axis rotary measurements and can be used, among other things, in electrically commutated motors, for measuring steering angles, in lidar applications or for general angle detection applications.

The iC-MU200 is suitable for applications that require absolute position information right after switching on the encoder system. This is achieved by simultaneously scanning two magnetic tracks according to the Nonius principle. The absolute positon is provided with typically 19-bit resolution. For incremental applications, the Hall encoder iC-MHL200 is well suited. Both encoder ICs are optimized for pole widths of 2 mm.

The available interfaces SPI (iC-MU200), BiSS C, SSI, A/B/Z (FlexCount®) and U/V/W offer maximum flexibility.

New Whitepaper in Chinese

June 27th, 2017

iC-PR

The whitepaper entitled "Encoder Blue goes reflective" is now available in chinese.

Traditional optical encoders rely on transmissive optics, which is a mature and well-known technology for encoders. However, it also has its own inherent drawbacks, limiting its application in certain scenarios. In order to better suit different applications and their specific requirements, new encoder technologies are constantly being developed and implemented.

An alternative technology for encoders is based on reflective optics, which tries to improve on the features where transmissive encoders tend to fall short. The reflective optical encoder with blue light is one example of such a new technology, and is being released by iC-Haus as the iC-PR and iC-PX Series integrated circuits.

This article details the features and advantages of this new approach.

New Article in Chinese

July 15th, 2016

iC-TL6

The full article entitled "Masked Poinnt-Source LEDs Optimize Sensor Illumination" is now available in chinese.

LEDs are gradually being adopted by more and more applications each year. High efficiency, simplicity and low cost are the main advantages driving the tendency to use LEDs instead of other traditional illumination sources. However, different requirements are imposed by some specific applications, in some cases not yet solved by traditional LED techniques. One of such applications is in optical sensors which provide high fidelity information for high accuracy triangulation, machine vision, etc. They require extremely homogeneus light intensity, as well as well-defined illumination geometry, characteristics still hard to achieve using traditional LED technology.

In this context, this article describes various LED technologies available, their advantages and disadvantages, and presents a new type of solution: Masked Point-Source LEDs. Its concept is explained and application examples are described.

The Masked Point-Source LED was designed by iC-Haus and it is implemented in our readily available iC-TL6 Point-Source LED product. Other variations of the Masked Point-Source LED can be easily designed according to the requirements of each application.

News Release: Encoder Blue

February 4th, 2015

EncoderBlue

Encoder Blue: iC-Haus brings innovation for a new generation of optical encoders using blue LEDs!

Combining the availability of high-quality blue LEDs at low costs and improved techniques in the optical sensor design, the new blue LED powered encoders can provide many advantages in comparison to the traditional IR / red LED approach:

These improvements can be achieved for both absolute and incremental encoders, using our new iC-TL46 blue LED together with our new opto encoder iCs with the HD-Phased Array technology for smaller structures which benefit largely from the shorter wavelength of the blue light.

Our iC-PT H-Series is a new released single-chip optical encoder iCs, carrying the HD-Phased Array technology, as well as a 4-fold interpolation circuit and a LED driver with automatic current control. This allows this small 5 x 5 mm² chip to deliver high resolution incremental (AB) signals, together with an index pulse (Z) and commutation signals (UVW). Using small diameter discs it is possible to achieve resolutions of 10,000 pulses per revolution with maximum rotation speed of 10,000 rpm.
